US Banks Unite to Launch Nationwide Blockchain Network in 2027
Thirty-nine US state banking associations have formed the BankChain Alliance to build a nationwide blockchain network for banks. The network aims to support smart payment tools, tokenized deposits, stablecoins, and automated settlement.
The participating associations represent thousands of financial institutions across the US. BankChain plans for the network to be interoperable with other blockchains and is currently selecting a technology partner.
Unlike independently issued stablecoins, tokenized deposits retain their treatment as commercial bank money. This structure allows banks to offer programmable and round-the-clock transfers while keeping customer funds on their balance sheets.
