US Bans Chinese Data Center Equipment Amid Cyber Security Fears
The Trump administration has drafted a ban on Chinese-made data center equipment entering the US, citing national security concerns and potential cyber threats. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced import restrictions targeting connected power inverters, humanoid robots, and quadruped robots manufactured in China.
The restrictions apply only to newly manufactured models, not existing infrastructure, which can continue to operate without interruption.
Data centers are a critical component of both AI training and large-scale crypto mining operations, relying on the same kind of power infrastructure that's now being restricted. Power inverters connect mining rigs to the grid, making them an essential part of US-based mining facilities.
