US-Based Scammer Steals $5M by Impersonating Crypto Exchange Support Teams
ZachXBT, a well-known cryptocurrency trader and analyst, has discovered a US-based scammer who impersonated support teams to steal over $5 million in cryptocurrencies.
The scammer, whose identity remains unknown, used fake email addresses and phone numbers that were identical or very similar to those of legitimate support teams from various exchanges. They would then contact victims claiming to be from these support teams and request sensitive information or direct transfers of cryptocurrency funds.
This is not the first time ZachXBT has exposed a scammer, but it highlights the growing threat of impersonation scams in the crypto space. As the industry continues to grow, so do the tactics used by scammers to deceive victims and steal their assets.
