US Bitcoin Reserve Unlikely to Make New Purchases Before Trump Term Ends
The US government's Strategic Bitcoin Reserve is unlikely to purchase any additional Bitcoins on the open market before President Donald Trump's term ends in January 2029, according to Bitget CEO Gracy Chen.
The reserve was established by an executive order in March 2025 and currently only includes Bitcoin seized or forfeited through legal proceedings, with no taxpayer funds used for purchases. This makes the reserve more symbolic than a strategic asset, as no additional Bitcoins have been bought and sales are prohibited.
Any future open-market purchases would require Congressional approval and budget allocation, which have not gained traction so far.
