US Builds Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Amid Stalled Crypto Legislation
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the US is moving forward with building a strategic Bitcoin reserve, citing 'deliberate speed' as the government works on the complex project.
The reserve was mandated by an executive order signed by President Donald Trump in March 2025, which directed the Treasury to hold BTC seized through criminal and civil cases, as well as build a separate digital asset stockpile.
Bessent emphasized that the team is using best practices to ensure the reserve's longevity. 'We are proceeding with all deliberate speed,' he said during a Senate Finance Committee hearing on June 3.
The CLARITY Act, which would create the first federal rules for digital assets, has stalled in the Senate due to disagreements over stablecoin rewards and other provisions. Bessent urged senators to support the bill, saying 'it's very necessary to bring US best practices onshore.'
