US CLARITY Act: A New Blueprint for Crypto Regulation
The US CLARITY Act aims to establish clearer federal rules for cryptocurrencies and digital assets in the United States. The proposed legislation, which has already passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support in 2025, seeks to divide regulatory responsibilities between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
The bill now needs to clear the Senate floor, where a 60-vote threshold is required. According to media reports, the Senate is expected to take up the bill in September.
Industry experts believe that the CLARITY Act will have a significant impact on the global crypto market, creating a blueprint for how the sector can operate within established financial rules. Ashish Singhal, Co-founder of CoinSwitch, said, “By setting clearer regulatory responsibilities and defining how different types of digital assets may be treated, the United States is creating a reference point for other major markets.”
For Indian investors, the significance of the US legislation lies in its potential to influence global liquidity, institutional participation, and overall market sentiment. Edul Patel, CEO of Mudrex, said, “This matters for Indian investors as developments in the US can affect globally traded assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.”
India's crypto framework remains focused on taxation, anti-money laundering (AML) rules, and regulatory clarity. While the CLARITY Act does not change the obligations of Indian investors, it provides a reference for how another major market is approaching these questions.
