US CLARITY Act Gains Bipartisan Momentum Amid Generational Shift
A key digital asset regulation bill in the US, known as the CLARITY Act, is expected to pass Congress despite opposition from some Democratic lawmakers. According to Coinbase's Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad, a consensus is forming among Republicans and younger Democrats that a regulatory framework for digital assets needs to be clarified.
Shirzad pointed out that the opposing current within the Democratic Party is largely a generational issue. He stated that younger lawmakers understand technological change and believe that as the form of money changes, the way people participate in finance must also adapt.
The CLARITY Act aims to codify a regulatory framework for digital assets. A recently circulated revision includes a provision banning public officials and their families from issuing or promoting cryptocurrencies. However, some Democratic lawmakers have expressed concerns that the current bill is still inadequate.
