US Commerce Department Brings Official Economic Data On-Chain

The US Department of Commerce has partnered with Chainlink to publish official economic figures onchain. This collaboration marks a significant step toward government-data becoming a standard input for onchain applications.

The feeds cover real GDP, the PCE price index, and real final sales to private domestic purchasers, providing developers with access to official government numbers straight into smart contracts.

The rollout includes six separate feeds, each of the three indicators coming in two formats: a level reading and a percent change reading. The data-feeds do not release figures earlier than the government's normal publication schedule, ensuring that onchain users see the same numbers as those reported by the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

The feeds are live across ten blockchain networks at launch, with more networks potentially getting support later based on demand from builders. This wider chain support means more apps can plug in, expanding the potential use cases for official government data onchain.
