US Court Freezes Assets in Ongoing Bybit Hack Investigation
A US court has granted a preliminary injunction freezing identified assets tied to unnamed defendants in the Bybit hack case.
The lawsuit, filed by Bybit against North Korea and its Reconnaissance General Bureau, along with the Lazarus Group, aims to preserve recoverable digital assets while pursuing claims through the federal civil process.
About $48.4 million has been recovered so far, with another $30.5 million remaining frozen across more than 28 exchanges and custodians.
The Bybit hack took place on February 21, 2025, when attackers removed nearly $1.5 billion in ether from the exchange, making it one of the largest digital heists in cryptocurrency history.
