US Court Orders Forfeiture of North Korean Crypto Tied to Money Laundering
A US court has ordered the forfeiture of virtual assets linked to North Korean IT workers' money laundering activities.
Judge Rudolph Contreras of the US District Court for the District of Columbia ruled on March 3 that funds held in a cryptocurrency wallet starting with the address 'Ox81c4' should be forfeited to the US government.
The wallet contains $212,700 in stablecoins, equivalent to approximately 285 million won, according to US prosecutors. They claimed this corresponds to the wages of at least 14 North Korean IT workers.
This ruling came as part of a larger effort by the US Department of Justice to forfeit $7.74 million in cryptocurrency associated with North Korea's overseas workers.
