US Crypto Framework Takes Shape as CLARITY Act Nears Final Vote
The US CLARITY Act is a proposed legislation that aims to establish clearer federal rules for cryptocurrencies and digital assets. The bill, which has already passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support in 2025 and cleared the Senate Banking Committee in May 2026, now needs to clear the Senate floor where a 60-vote threshold is required.
The CLARITY Act proposes to divide the regulatory responsibilities of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in the crypto sector. Ashish Singhal, Co-founder of CoinSwitch, said that the United States is creating a blueprint for how the sector can operate within established financial rules by setting clearer regulatory responsibilities.
For Indian investors, the significance of the US legislation lies largely in how changes in the global crypto market could affect assets. Rajagopal Menon, Vice President of WazirX, said that the impact will not be immediate and that agencies will still need to write and implement the rules after the Act becomes law.
Edul Patel, CEO of Mudrex, noted that developments in the US can influence global liquidity, institutional participation, and overall market sentiment. He added that for Indian investors, the impact is likely to appear first in globally traded assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, while domestic liquidity will still depend on Indian taxation, banking access, and platform-level market depth.
