US Crypto Regs: CLARITY Act Seen as Crucial Moment by Fundstrat's Tom Lee

Share

Crypto in the US is currently plagued by a patchwork of conflicting state rules, but the proposed CLARITY Act aims to change that. Fundstrat's Tom Lee explains that this bill would create a single national body, the CFTC, to oversee crypto and provide clarity for companies looking to build stablecoin systems and put real-world assets on the blockchain.

Lee points out that big banks and asset managers such as Charles Schwab and Franklin Templeton are in favor of the CLARITY Act. He compares this moment to 1934 when the SEC was created to provide a single standard for investors, rather than navigating multiple state rules.

Crypto is going through a significant shift, according to Lee, as it's turning money into software, allowing loyalty points and reputation scores to function like currency. This requires one clear referee, not fifty different standards.

The US risks falling behind other countries if the CLARITY Act doesn't pass, as Japan, Russia, and Europe are already implementing similar rules. Lee is cautious about the bill's chances, stating that 'anything could happen' with only a few legislative days left before the midterms.
