US Crypto Regulation Bill Hits Roadblock as Democrats Stall Vote
The Clarity Act, which aims to establish clear regulations for the crypto market, is facing delays in the Senate due to opposition from Democrats. Senator Dave McCormick, a Republican, has expressed frustration with the delay and called for a vote on the bill, saying 'The time for delay is over.' He emphasized the need for clear rules that protect consumers and promote digital asset innovation in the US.
The Clarity Act has been in development since last year and has undergone revisions to address concerns raised by banking chiefs. A new draft of the bill bans officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto, which was a point of contention among opposition lawmakers.
While some Democrats have criticized the bill, arguing that it would allow President Donald Trump to profit from crypto, others have expressed support for the legislation. Major institutions such as Fidelity and Goldman Sachs, as well as crypto lobby groups and politicians, have stated that the revised bill is acceptable in its current form.
