US Crypto Regulations Lag Behind G20 Nations, Says Coinbase CEO
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has highlighted the United States' lag behind other G20 nations in implementing regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrency trading. According to Armstrong, most G20 countries have already established rules for crypto trading, while the US remains an outlier despite hosting the world's largest financial market.
The UK has introduced its financial services and markets framework, which includes provisions for stablecoins and crypto trading. The European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation is set to be fully implemented by the end of 2024, creating a unified licensing system across member states.
Armstrong called on the US Senate to pass the CLARITY Act, which aims to provide regulatory clarity for digital assets by classifying them as commodities or securities. The bill has been introduced in the Senate but has yet to pass, with proponents arguing that clear rules would protect consumers and reduce fraud.
