US Cryptocurrency Regulation Bill Hits Roadblock as Senate Fails to Schedule Vote
The Clarity Act, a comprehensive legislative proposal to regulate the cryptocurrency sector in the US, has hit a snag. The bill, also known as the Transparency Act, was eagerly awaited by proponents who hoped it would pass the Senate before its recess on August 10.
However, reports from the US indicate that the Clarity Act is not on the Senate's agenda for voting, at least not yet. According to the Senate's schedule announced on August 3rd, a procedural vote on government funding regulation H.R. 6500 will take place instead of considering the Clarity Act.
The bill needs 60 votes to pass in the Senate, and even if all Republicans support it, it still requires the backing of at least seven Democratic senators. Some Democratic senators have expressed concerns about the publicly released draft of the Clarity Act, arguing that it lacks sufficient consumer protection measures, ethical guidelines, and conflict-of-interest regulations.
