US Cryptocurrency Regulation: CLARITY Act May Be Crypto's Breakthrough Moment
Tom Lee, co-founder of Fundstrat, is calling the CLARITY Act a game-changer for the cryptocurrency market. The proposed legislation would designate the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as the single federal regulator for crypto in the US, replacing the current patchwork of 50 state rules.
This matters because big banks and asset managers like Charles Schwab and Franklin Templeton want to build stablecoin systems and tokenized real-world assets. However, they are hesitant to do so due to the uncertainty surrounding state regulations.
Lee compares this moment to 1934 when the US created the SEC to replace conflicting state rules for investors. He believes that a single national body to oversee crypto is necessary for its growth and adoption.
