US government debt has surpassed $40 trillion, sparking renewed interest in Bitcoin and select digital assets. Grayscale's head of research, Zach Pandl, warns that unchecked government borrowing is driving investors to seek alternative stores of value like physical gold and certain cryptocurrencies.

The 'debasement trade' is a financial strategy where investors shift capital into assets that can act as hedges against currency depreciation. Last year, this trend contributed to a surge in Bitcoin's value, but the digital asset's momentum slowed after October when market focus turned toward stocks in the artificial intelligence sector.

Grayscale's research team notes that the revival of Treasury buybacks has helped drive fresh interest in Bitcoin and other non-yield-bearing assets. The announcement led to a decline in the US dollar's value and triggered renewed demand for scarce assets like Bitcoin.
