US DOJ Cracks Down on Crypto Market Manipulators

Share

The US Department of Justice has brought charges against 10 foreign nationals for allegedly manipulating cryptocurrency markets using sophisticated trading bots.

The defendants, tied to four market-making firms, Gotbit, Vortex, Antier, and Contrarian, are accused of generating millions in fake daily trading volume on crypto exchanges.

This artificial volume served as bait: luring in buyers who believed there was real demand, then selling off holdings into that manufactured liquidity.

The operation, dubbed 'Operation Token Mirrors,' involved undercover agents creating fake digital asset projects to catch manipulators in the act. Over $1 million in digital assets were seized and trading bots disabled as part of the enforcement action.
