US Government Corruption Reaches Record High as Americans Lose Faith in Politicians
Americans are increasingly disillusioned with government corruption, with an overwhelming 89% of citizens believing that the US government is corrupt. This sentiment transcends party lines, with Republicans and Democrats alike sharing concerns about self-serving politicians.
The issue gained momentum under former President Donald Trump's administration. Despite his opaque financial dealings and refusal to release tax returns, Trump saw a significant surge in wealth during his presidency, with Forbes valuing him at $6.5 billion in 2027. Critics argue that this growth is linked to his influence over cryptocurrency markets.
However, the problem extends beyond Trump's administration. In 2023, an investigation found that 78 members of Congress failed to properly report their financial trades, with lawmakers often facing lenient penalties for violating the STOCK Act. While some proposed legislation aimed to ban politicians from trading individual stocks, it has yet to be passed.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has also faced scrutiny over its handling of cryptocurrency cases, particularly under Trump's leadership. The agency reportedly dismissed a higher rate of crypto firm cases during his tenure compared to other industries.
