US Government Sells Seized Anthropic Shares at Fraction of Potential Value
The US government seized Anthropic shares from former FTX executives Nishad Singh and Caroline Ellison after their guilty plea. The shares, reportedly worth between $2.6 billion and $5 billion at current value, were sold off early by the government.
The sale has been criticized as the government may have missed out on significant gains had it held onto the shares. According to experts, if the government had kept the shares, they could now be worth between $2.6 billion and $5.03 billion.
FTX creditors and victims have also expressed concern over the lack of transparency in the sale process. The US Marshals sold off the stake shortly after taking control, but the exact price is unknown. It is believed to be in the range of $250 million to $1.1 billion at the time.
