US House to Vote on Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Bill
The US House Financial Services Committee is set to vote on September 16 on the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve bill. The legislation aims to establish a reserve of government-held Bitcoin, requiring it to be locked for at least 20 years. This would also mandate quarterly public proof-of-reserve reports and create a separate stockpile for non-Bitcoin digital assets.
The Treasury and Commerce departments will study budget-neutral ways to acquire more Bitcoin without new taxes or borrowing. The bill also allows states to voluntarily place Bitcoin in segregated federal accounts and protects private ownership rights of digital assets.
