US Interest in Bitcoin Hits Near Five-Year Low Despite Pro-Crypto Policies
Despite President Trump's pro-crypto policies, interest in Bitcoin has fallen to near-historic lows in the US. According to Google Trends, searches for Bitcoin hit a five-year low in early August, with a popularity score of just 18. This is down from the February selloff, which saw BTC prices drop 30% to near-$60K and interest peak at an all-time high of 100 on Google Trends' arbitrary numeric scale.
The Clarity Act, a key regulatory piece for the crypto industry, is expected to be voted on in the US Senate this week, but it's unclear if there is bipartisan support for its passage. Meanwhile, a River report found that nearly 50 million Americans own Bitcoin, surpassing gold as the preferred investment asset in the US.
The low online interest in Bitcoin contrasts with the growing attention to crypto and related themes since President Trump took office. However, even major events such as a millionaire exploit on the Coldcard hardware wallet, which resulted in the loss of over 1,300 BTC, failed to prop up search interest in Bitcoin.
