US Markets Bounce Back Amid Debt Market Uncertainty
The US equity markets rebounded at the end of a volatile week, despite bond yields rising modestly. Bitcoin and gold also surged in value.
All three major US equity benchmarks were higher on Friday, August 22, even as concerns about the US Treasury's efforts to stabilize the debt market persisted.
Goldman Sachs' George Cole noted that the underlying drivers of the market, including cyclical resilience, inflation risk, and policy uncertainty, remain unresolved. He stated, 'As long as the underlying drivers... remain unresolved, attempting to suppress long-end rates volatility via supply adjustments will simply push the pressure elsewhere.'
