US National Debt Hits $39 Trillion: Can Americans Afford Bitcoin?
The US national debt has surpassed $39 trillion, with each American now carrying nearly $116,000 in debt. This massive burden is affecting households and businesses through higher borrowing costs.
A report by The Conference Board modeled five fiscal paths, including a worst-case scenario where the US defaults on its debt. In this case, small business loan payments would increase by 21.6%, student loan costs by 8.7%, and housing costs by up to 6.7%.
The baseline path is still concerning, with debt projected to reach 154% of GDP by 2036. This could lead to significant financial strain on Social Security's main trust fund, which is set to run dry in 2032.
