US-Regulated Stablecoin Grows 540%, Parent Contracts Amid Regulatory Hurdles
The US-regulated stablecoin, USAT, has experienced a 540% growth in circulation value over just one month. Launched on January 27 with an initial supply of $10 million, it reached $17.6 million by the end of its first week and grew to $140.8 million by April 30, according to a Deloitte-signed reserve report.
This growth is notable not only for its speed but also because USAT remains minuscule in comparison to its offshore parent, USDT, which has circulation value of roughly $184 billion. While the compliant American token grew, the parent shrank by about $6 billion over sixty days.
The corporate structure behind USAT is designed to meet the requirements of the American stablecoin statute and includes Anchorage Digital Bank as the issuer, Cantor Fitzgerald as designated reserve custodian and primary dealer, and Bo Hines, former executive director of the White House Crypto Council, leading the US entity.
