US Regulator Approves Conditional Charter for World Liberty Trust Company
The US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has granted conditional preliminary approval for a national trust charter to World Liberty Trust Company, a crypto firm linked to the Trump family. This step allows the company to move toward in-house management of its $4 billion USD1 stablecoin.
The OCC issued the approval on August 14, 2026, and it's not a full banking license. It comes with specific operational limitations, prohibiting World Liberty Trust from engaging in traditional banking activities like taking deposits or providing loans.
To secure the final authorization, the company must satisfy several rigorous regulatory requirements set by the OCC. These include maintaining a minimum of $20 million in Tier 1 capital, establishing robust internal audit systems, and hiring a dedicated internal audit manager.
