US Sanctions Iranian Crypto Exchanges Amid Rising Tehran Activity
Iran's cryptocurrency activity has seen an increase of 11.8% year-on-year by mid-2025, while North America recorded $2.3 trillion in crypto transactions between July 2024 and June 2025.
The United States ranked second globally in Chainalysis' 2025 adoption index, signaling the rapid mainstreaming of cryptocurrency into financial infrastructure.
In response to this trend, the US government has sanctioned top Iranian exchanges and addresses to block sanctions evasion, increasing compliance and geopolitical risk for centralized exchanges (CEXs), decentralized finance rails, and cross-border token flows.
