US Seizes $560K in Crypto Donations Meant for Hamas
The US Department of Justice has announced that it has seized over $560,000 in cryptocurrency donations intended for Hamas. The funds were meant to support the militant group's military wing. In addition to the cryptocurrency seizure, the department also took control of website domains and communication platforms used for fundraising and recruitment.
The Justice Department stated that it had obtained information about thousands of people who had contacted Hamas with the intention of giving money to the group. The seizures are seen as a disruption of financing for Hamas, a militant group designated as a terrorist organization by several countries.
US Attorney Jeanine Pirro said in a statement, 'My message to Hamas is clear: your networks are not safe.'
