US Seizes $560K in Crypto Donations Meant for Hamas
The US Department of Justice has announced the seizure of over $560,000 in cryptocurrency donations intended for Hamas. This move coincided with the closure of several of the group's fundraising and recruitment platforms and websites.
The Department explained that Hamas controlled digital addresses on behalf of its military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, through its infrastructure. By seizing the Brigades' main domain (al-Qassam.ps), the FBI was able to precisely track the flow of donations.
Court documents reveal that investigators used intelligence and human sources to identify and freeze these funds. Operations were carried out throughout 2025 by the FBI's Albuquerque office in conjunction with its human resources division, resulting in the seizure of servers and domains.
The data obtained from this operation will be used in future counterterrorism efforts. According to Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Eisenberg, these operations deprive Hamas of resources to fund attacks and online recruitment.
