US Seizes $560K in Crypto Donations Meant for Hamas
The US Justice Department has announced the seizure of over $560,000 in cryptocurrency donations intended for Hamas, a militant group. The operation targeted fundraising and recruitment efforts by the Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas.
FBI officials began investigating after identifying a financing network that solicited virtual currency donations via Telegram. A confidential source within the US alerted law enforcement to a post seeking contributions to an email address linked to Hamas.
The seizure marks a significant disruption in Hamas' ability to wage war, according to Jeanine Pirro, the US attorney for the District of Columbia. 'Your networks are not secure, your crypto is vulnerable, and we will not stop until your ability to wage war is defeated,' she stated.
