The US Department of Justice reported that over $560,000 in cryptocurrency was seized from Hamas fundraising campaigns. The investigation involved Chainalysis, which used blockchain analytics to identify links between cryptocurrency addresses and reconstruct the financial network.

According to the DOJ, courts authorized the FBI to confiscate the assets, as well as take down websites and communication channels allegedly used by Hamas to solicit donations and engage with supporters.

The investigation involved five related operations carried out from March 2025 through August 2026. Chainalysis notes that a key feature of blockchain investigations is the immutability of transaction history, which allows investigators to return to old data, uncover new links, and continue the investigation as the network evolves.
