US Seizes $560K in Crypto Linked to Hamas Terror Group

The US Justice Department announced on September 1 that authorities had seized more than $560,000 in cryptocurrency intended for Hamas. The funds were allegedly destined to support the Al Qassam Brigades, a designated foreign terrorist organization.

Three unsealed cryptocurrency seizure warrants covered funds investigators identified and traced between March 25 and October 10, 2025. Multiple human sources helped investigators follow approximately $560,000 in cryptocurrency that was allegedly destined to support the Al Qassam Brigades.

The Justice Department did not identify the cryptocurrencies involved or the number of wallets seized. It also noted that control of the online infrastructure allowed investigators to intercept intended donations and gather information about thousands of people who contacted Hamas online to donate or attempt to donate through cryptocurrency and traditional payment methods.

The operation combined blockchain tracing with domain and server seizures, a strategy similar to other US forfeiture actions involving digital assets. The FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated the case, assisted by the bureau's Counterterrorism Division, Cyber Division, and New York Field Office.
