US Seizes $61M in Crypto Linked to Alleged Iran Oil Smuggling Scheme
The US Department of Justice has seized $61 million in cryptocurrency that allegedly facilitated the black-market sale of Iranian oil, generating over $1.5 billion in illicit proceeds for Iran's government and military.
According to a civil forfeiture complaint filed yesterday, two Chinese companies, Blessed Trust and Hexa Whale, used Binance to launder funds and distribute them to Iran's government and proxies.
The complaint does not accuse Binance of any wrongdoing, but it highlights the exchange's involvement in the alleged scheme.
