US Senate Delays Clarity Act Vote Amid Regulation Concerns
The US Senate has delayed its procedural vote on the Clarity Act, a digital asset market clarity bill. The move comes after concerns were raised by Democrats about Donald Trump's business ties to the crypto industry and other issues affecting law enforcement provisions.
According to Senator John Thune, the vote will not be held before the August recess, but it gives negotiators more time to resolve outstanding issues. These include ethics, yield and rewards on stablecoins, technical provisions, and law enforcement measures.
Despite the delay, supporters of regulation remain optimistic that a deal can still be reached. Senators Angela Alsobrooks and Cynthia Lummis have stated their commitment to passing the bill, with Alsobrooks emphasizing that 'proper passage' is the goal.
The industry has been waiting for a clear regulatory framework for digital assets, but the delay may benefit the market in the long run. A vote now would have likely led to the bill's failure, which could have cooled expectations around regulation for a long time.
