US Senate Delays CLARITY Act Vote Amid Russia-Iran Sanctions Take Priority
The US Senate's vote on the CLARITY Act, a digital-asset market structure bill, is unlikely to happen this week. According to Eleanor Terrett, host of Crypto in America, the Senate will prioritize a Russia-Iran sanctions bill instead.
This decision means that the cloture process for the motion to proceed with the CLARITY Act may be pushed to next week. The Senate Majority Leader, John Thune, would need to complete this process before July 30 for the vote to occur this week.
The Senate leadership wants to wrap up at least the cloture process before lawmakers take their August recess. This practice of handling contentious bills one at a time makes it difficult for the CLARITY Act to advance before other business is resolved.
