US Senate Republicans Reveal Revised Crypto Bill Ahead of Critical Vote
US Senate Republicans have released an updated version of their cryptocurrency bill ahead of a critical vote on Tuesday. The Clarity Act, which aims to create a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, had stalled due to concerns over ethics provisions and its potential impact on the banking system.
The new draft includes 126 substantive changes made at the request of Democrats, addressing issues such as stricter restrictions on public officeholders profiting from their own crypto ventures. The bill would give state attorneys general more power to enforce these restrictions, which were put forth by Senators Thom Tillis and Ruben Gallego.
However, concerns remain within the banking industry, with one official stating that language allowing crypto players to offer rewards on dollar-backed tokens known as stablecoins is still a point of contention. The crypto industry has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in lobbying efforts to advance the Clarity Act, which it believes will provide clarity and stability for crypto companies.
