US Senate to Vote on CLARITY Act Amid Crypto Regulations Delays
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins has expressed support for the CLARITY Act, a bill aiming to clarify regulatory responsibilities for digital assets. The act would establish clearer roles for the SEC and Commodity Futures Trading Commission in overseeing crypto markets.
A Senate vote on September 15 will determine whether the legislation advances, providing lawmakers with limited time before election activity reduces legislative momentum. If passed, the CLARITY Act would create registration requirements for crypto companies and introduce anti-money laundering obligations, offering digital asset firms a defined route.
The SEC is also preparing rules to work alongside the legislation, collecting comments on exemptions covering fundraising and digital asset activities. If Congress fails to establish a new framework, the agency could use existing securities laws. The vote will test whether lawmakers can overcome delays and move the bill forward.
