US Senate's Summer Recess Threatens Clarity Act Passage
The prospects of the Cryptocurrency Bill Clarity Act (CLARITY Act) being passed by the US Senate before its summer recess are dwindling. According to Senator John Thune, the bill may not be brought to a final vote until after the recess begins. However, Thune expressed hope that the bill would start being debated in the Senate before the recess.
The crypto sector had considered August 7th as a crucial date for the regulation to become law by the end of 2026. If the process is delayed until the fall, it could be challenging for the bill to be completed this year due to Congress's packed schedule.
White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt believes that the Senate might take action on the bill in the first week of August, but a final vote in July seems unlikely. The updated draft of the bill includes stronger provisions for protecting customer assets, but there are still disagreements over several clauses, including ethical guidelines for public officials' crypto activities and stablecoin rewards.
