US Slaps Iran with Cryptocurrency-Focused Sanctions, Warns Trading Countries
The US has taken another step in its ongoing efforts to increase economic pressure on Iran by imposing new sanctions. The latest move, announced by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, includes cryptocurrencies within the scope of sanctions. According to Bessent, 'Operation Economic Exclusion' aims to block all options supporting Iran and warns that countries maintaining any form of economic ties with the regime will face strong US sanctions.
The new sanctions list includes over 60 individuals, entities, and vessels worldwide. The US Treasury Department has also expanded its checks through the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to ensure compliance.
China responded strongly to the US move, with Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stating that China-Iran cooperation is being conducted within the framework of international law and should not be disrupted by third-party interference.
