US Strikes Target Iranian Guard Corps Near Strategic Strait
Multiple explosions rocked southern Iran on September 1, as US Central Command confirmed it had initiated strikes against Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps targets. The strikes targeted IRGC sites around Bandar Abbas, a strategic port city that sits at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz. This waterway handles not just crude oil but also significant shares of global liquefied natural gas shipments.
The explosions coincided with the US strikes and occurred in six to eight distinct blasts reported across Konarak, Chabahar, Bandar Abbas, and Qeshm Island. Reports from the affected areas described explosions near Masan village and from the direction of the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM framed the operation as a necessary response to IRGC actions that it said were threatening commercial shipping through the strait. The absence of confirmed casualties or detailed damage assessments from Iran creates its own kind of uncertainty, which will largely determine whether this remains a contained exchange or escalates into something that fundamentally reprices global risk.
