US Targets Iran-Linked Crypto Exchanges with New Sanctions
The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on two Iran-linked cryptocurrency exchanges. This move is aimed at disrupting financial networks that allegedly support Iranian entities and individuals subject to US sanctions.
According to the OFAC, the sanctioned exchanges are Sarmad Trading Co., aka Sarmad Exchange, and Pardazeh Avval e-Bonk, aka Payin. The agency stated that these exchanges have provided services to entities involved in activities contrary to US national security and foreign policy interests.
The sanctions prohibit any US person or business from engaging with the sanctioned exchanges, including freezing their assets. This decision is part of the ongoing efforts by the US government to limit Iran's access to financial networks and prevent it from circumventing international sanctions.
