US to Intensify Diplomatic Efforts to Revive Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced that Washington will intensify diplomatic efforts to revive peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. The conflict between the two nations has been ongoing, with Moscow and Kyiv remaining divided on key issues. Rubio stated that bringing both sides back to the negotiating table is crucial to ending the war.
Rubio emphasized that narrowing the divide between Moscow and Kyiv's positions is essential for achieving substantive progress. He warned that until their 'red lines' are closer together, a desired result will not be achieved. This comes as US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are set to visit Ukraine in August, coinciding with Ukraine's Independence Day celebrations.
The renewed diplomatic push aims to bring Russia and Ukraine back to the negotiating table through framework proposals for trilateral discussions among the US, Russia, and Ukraine. This includes a potential 'air ceasefire' intended to stop strikes targeting civilian and energy infrastructure.
