US Transfers Command of Ukraine Security Group to NATO Ally
The US is planning to transfer leadership of the Security Assistance Group-Ukraine (SAG-U) to a NATO ally, marking a shift in the organization's command structure. Established in November 2022, SAG-U has been the central hub for coordinating over $60 billion in US defense contributions to Ukraine.
NATO is set to assume operational control of SAG-U over the next year, with Lt. Gen. Curtis Buzzard stepping down as commander. The NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU) command, launched after the July 2024 Washington Summit, will take on a key role in this process.
The US has reassured that arms deliveries to Ukraine will continue despite the leadership transition. Meanwhile, Ukraine's separate crypto funding pipeline has quietly grown alongside traditional aid, with over $212 million in donations primarily in Bitcoin and Ethereum since February 2022.
