US Treasury Hits Two Iranian-Linked Crypto Exchanges with Sanctions

Share

The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on two Iranian-linked cryptocurrency exchanges, Shelbit and Aban Tether.

According to OFAC, these exchanges have facilitated illicit cryptocurrency activity and sanctions evasion, allowing the Iranian regime to launder billions of dollars in support of its military actions.

The Treasury Department's actions are part of an ongoing effort to target Iran's finances, with Secretary Scott Bessent stating that 'whether in dollars, rials, or crypto, Treasury will hunt down and dismantle the illicit financial networks that keep the regime afloat.'

OFAC also sanctioned Iranian national Siavash Kayvanpour, as well as several crypto wallets and companies linked to him.
