US Treasury Opens Comment Period on GENIUS Act Stablecoin Rules
The US Treasury has published proposed rules for implementing the GENIUS Act's stablecoin provisions and opened a 60-day public comment period. The move is aimed at providing clearer federal oversight and legal certainty for crypto issuers, exchanges, and DeFi firms.
The proposal seeks to clarify how companies can issue, offer, and sell payment stablecoins in the United States. This could boost adoption of stablecoins and support market growth by reducing regulatory risk.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent welcomed input from stakeholders as they work to provide the regulatory framework for payment stablecoins. The proposed rules were published Monday, and industry participants have 60 days to respond after publication in the Federal Register.
