US Treasury Sanctions Multiple Iranian Airlines Under 'Operation Economic Outcast'
The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control has added multiple Iranian airlines to its Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List, targeting passenger air carriers allegedly used for military logistics support.
The designations include Iran Aseman Airlines and Mahan Air, with the former being a newer addition to the restricted list. US persons are now prohibited from engaging in any transactions with these entities, while foreign companies risk secondary sanctions if they provide material assistance.
The move is part of 'Operation Economic Outcast,' a broader sanctions campaign targeting multiple sectors of Iran's economy, including aviation, digital assets, and shipping. The operation includes digital assets within its scope, requiring crypto exchanges to screen against additional wallet addresses and entity names.
