US Treasury Targets Two More Crypto Exchanges Over Alleged Ties to Iran
The US Treasury has added two more crypto exchanges to its sanctions list over alleged ties to Iran. Shelbit and Aban Tether were listed on August 7, 2026, with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) accusing them of supporting financial networks linked to the IRGC.
The Treasury describes a network of companies, online betting sites, and wallets associated with the Revolutionary Guards. Shelbit is said to be the gateway for this vast network, which includes Persian betting sites run by two Iranian influencers convicted in 2023 for illegal gambling.
OFAC also targets Siavash Kayvanpour, described as the head of a network of companies established in Georgia, the UAE, and Poland. The agency sanctions Aban Tether under its activity in the Iranian financial sector, citing millions of dollars in transactions with other Iranian exchanges.
