US VP Downplays Crypto Role in Debt Reduction, Focuses on Economic Growth
The US national debt has surpassed $40 trillion, prompting discussions about potential solutions. Vice President JD Vance recently commented on President Donald Trump's economic strategy and its relationship with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and XRP.
Vance was asked in a Newsmax interview if there were any plans to offset the growing national debt using crypto assets. He sidestepped the question, instead highlighting Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's plan for traditional economic growth. According to Vance, this plan aims to make the US economy grow faster than its debt.
The focus is also shifting towards attracting foreign investment, with nearly $19 trillion expected to enter the US over the next decade. This influx of capital could expand the tax base and support the Treasury market. Trump has expressed interest in creating a U.S. sovereign wealth fund, which may potentially include Bitcoin as part of its asset mix.
Vance emphasized that the administration's immediate focus is on regulation, particularly with regards to the CLARITY Act. This bill aims to establish clearer rules for digital assets and blockchain projects, providing companies with more certainty when building in the US.
