USD Coin (USDC) is a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar at a ratio of 1:1. Each unit in circulation is backed by $1 held in a reserve, which is a mix of cash and short-term US government securities.

The Centre Consortium, behind this asset, claims that USDC is issued by regulated financial institutions. Launched on a limited basis in September 2018, USD Coin's mantra is 'digital money for the digital age,' designed for a world where cashless transactions are becoming increasingly common.

USDC has various use cases, including providing a safe haven for crypto traders during times of volatility and enabling businesses to accept payments in digital assets. Proponents also believe it will stimulate sectors such as decentralized finance (DeFi) and gaming.
