USD/JPY Slumps to One-Month Low on BOJ Tightening Fears
The USD/JPY pair has seen significant price action in recent hours, falling from its earlier high of 160.38 to reach a one-month low of 156.64. This represents a decline of 1.3% and marks the lowest point for the pair since it reached 157.45 on July 27.
The drop has been attributed to rapidly shifting Bank of Japan tightening expectations, which are causing traders to become increasingly cautious near the 160 level. While this move bears little resemblance to Japan's confirmed intervention in late July, which led to a sharp decline from 163.97 to 155.22, it is still noteworthy that the pair has reached such a significant low.
The fact that this week's decline has been smaller and more orderly than previous interventions suggests that traders may be anticipating further price action heading into Friday's NFP report. This could set up an asymmetric test for the USD/JPY pair, as market participants wait to see how the release will impact global markets.
